 _____________________________________ INTRODUCTION

TesBwan is a free/open source breakout-like game for the TI-85 and TI-86
calculators. This program is written completely in Z80 assembly language
to fully take advantage of the calculator's capabilities.

If you want to obtain other calculator programs or learn more about TI
calculators, I would suggest visiting the web sites listed below. They all
have large archives as well as help sections. If you don't know how to
transfer programs to your calculator, or how to run them once you've
transferred them, you need to read their help pages to learn how.

    http://www.ticalc.org/ ticalc.org (English)

Modification of this program is encouraged. To facilitate this, I have
placed the program in public domain.

 _____________________________________ SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

For the TI-86 versions:

 * a TI-86 calculator
 * about 4.5K of RAM to store the program

For the TI-85 versions:

 * a TI-85 calculator
 * about 5.5K of RAM to store the program
 * an additional 5K of RAM free when running the program
 * you must have installed ZShell 4.0, or a fully compatible shell such as
OShell, CShell-NT, Usgard, Rigel, or PhatOS

 _____________________________________ LEGAL STUFF

Since you did not pay me anything for the right to use this software, there
is no warranty of any kind. This software has been tested, and at the time
of release the author was not aware of any problems with it. However, there
is still a possibility of unforeseen problems. If you do encounter any
problems with this program, please inform me as soon as possible (of course,
I cannot guarantee that I will fix such problems).

All parts of this software written by me are in the public domain, which
means that they are not copyrighted at all. Thus you may use, copy, or
modify it any way you want.

However, I would appreciate if you at least do the following if you are
making a modified version:

 - Don't restrict distribution of it
 - Supply source code
 - Give me a reasonable amount of credit
 - Make your version also public domain, or copyrighted under a license that
still allows users to modify it

Note that this applies only to the parts of the program that I wrote. All of
the source code supplied was written by me. However, the TI-86 version is
compressed by Lite86, and thus uses the Lite86 decompression routine also.
Lite86 is copyrighted by Kirk Meyer.

 _____________________________________ INSTRUCTIONS

To run the TI-85 version of the game, you must first have a shell installed.
ZShell 4.0 or any fully compatible shell should work (virtually all recent
shells are compatible with ZShell). After this is installed, send the
'tesbwan.85s' file to the calculator. You can then run it from the Usgard
shell as with any other Usgard program. Note that you must have 5K of RAM
free to run it.

To run the TI-86 version of the game, simply send the 'tesbwan.86p' file to
the calculator and run it. You can launch it from any decent shell, or you
can enter the following simply start it from the home screen by typing

Asm(tesbwan

After running the game, you will first see a title screen with a lot of nice
information. You can use the up and down arrows to scroll through all of it.
Press ALPHA to examine the high score table. To start the game, press F1 for
slow speed, F2 for medium speed, or F3 for fast speed. Once you do this, the
first level will appear, paused.

The in-game controls are:

left/right arrows : move paddle
EXIT : quit the game (certainly you don't want to do that)
MORE : save game and exit (will resume
ENTER : pause game
+/- : adjust contrast (I'll let you guess which is which)
2nd : unpause / start playing

If you finish the game, or lose all your lives, a high score screen will
be shown. Your final score is calculated as follows:

1 point for each brick you destroyed
10 points per life remaining if you finish the game
30 points for each 30-point bonus you collected
100 points bonus if you chose medium speed
200 points bonus if you chose fast speed

 _____________________________________ BONUS ITEMS

The following bonus items will be dropped from time to time. Move your
paddle over them to collect them. They are:

EXTRA LIFE: narrow paddle

30 EXTRA POINTS: number 30

SLOW BALL: ball followed by two dots

EXPAND PADDLE: arrows pointing in opposite directions

If you find any bugs in this game or have suggestions or comments about it,
please tell me in E-Mail! If you are writing to report a bug, please be
sure to tell me exactly what the problem is and describe exactly what you
did before the problem occured. If you don't do so, it will be very hard
for me to tell what is going wrong! You should also tell me which version
of Monster you have and which calulator you use in any mail you send me.
My main E-Mail address is:

        pad@ocf.berkeley.edu

I will usually answer my E-Mail within a week. If you don't get any answer
in two weeks, you can try sending to the following backup addresses:

        luezma@netscape.net
        eeulplek@hotmail.com
        ariwsi@sprintpcsmail.com

If your E-Mail is set up to block all messages except those from certain
addresses, always be sure that you have un-blocked my address before
sending anything to me (best to un-block all of them, since I might answer
from a different one than you sent to).

Even though this is only version 0.3, it should have most of the basic
